Details:
This was Venus and Mars in close conjunction in the dawn sky on October 5, 2017. Venus is the brightest object; Mars is below it; while the star above Venus is 4th magnitude Sigma Leonis. The grouping was best appreciated with binoculars, as Venus so overpowered dimmer Mars it was difficult to see it naked eye so close to Venus. The foreground is illuminated by light from the setting Full Moon in the west. The second image, taken later, is illuminated more by the brightening dawn twilight and colours.
