Details:
I returned from a trip to Alaska a few weeks ago and saw some great auroras up there, but now we are being treated to them way down in Northern Illinois! The Big Dipper appeared to be resting peacefully on a soft bed of green aurora, but then some sharp rays spiked up and stabbed the dipper. 13 sec. exposure, f3.5 at ISO 1600.

I spotted it and took pictures from east of Lexington, Illinois. I had a few clouds to deal with.
