Diamond Ring Eclipse Plane Spotted: While snapping images during the Great American Eclipse (August 21st) from Hopkinsville, KY, I fortuitously captured one image with a jetliner entering the Sun’s corona from the west and the next frame captured the resulting contrail drifting though the corona and the eclipsed Sun. This all happened as 3rd Contact was occurring and the second “diamond ring”, about 1:27 Central. It was a nice surprise when I got home and looked at all my images. The attached images were shot with a Canon 60D camera and Canon 100-400mm zoom with a 1.4X Extender (=560mmFL), f/8, 6,400 & 8,000 sec., ISO 100 and tracking on an iOptron Mini-Tower Pro.
