Details:
Shadow bands are mysterious and not yet fully understood. They are observed a few second or minutes before and after totality racing around the landscape, getting closer and closer to an observer, and intensifying as the totality nears. It is believed that shadow bands are caused by the light rays passing through the turbulent Earth's atmosphere. I noticed that the intensity of the bands was different before and after the tonality. Maybe something else is involved, but the turbulence?
Shadow bands are hard to capture on video. Most people used some kind of white material to film them, but I decided it will be much more interesting to capture them in the wild together with the sun. So I filmed a wide angle time lapse, and I did capture shadow bands, except youtube compresses the video and they are not seen on youtube. I ended up making three crops from the original video and enhancing them. Still not easy to see, but very much worth giving it a try. Please watch the video on your PC's monitor. You probably would not be able to see them on your phones.
The video has four parts.
The first one is the original video, where you would see the contrails, insects, flashing around the sun,the Moon's shadow closing in on the sun and the sunset's colors of the sky during the totality.
The next three parts are different enhanced crops of the original video.
