Details:
On the evening of 27 August, 15 minutes after the sun set behind Christmas Pass, one small extraordinary bright iridescent cloud, which on first impression looked like a fireball with short tail, appeared above the summit of Murahwa Mountain (first picture). This slowly changed color and shape over the next two minutes (second and third pictures) before fading and dispersing (last picture). The presence of other small wisps of cloud to the left of Murahwa Mountain being illuminated up by the last rays from the setting sun suggests that the extraordinary bright iridescent cloud was of atmospheric rather than meteoritic origin. No rapid motion was observed and no sounds were heard. The camera used was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset scene mode.
