Details:
I was expecting to see the corona, but was unprepared by photos for how beautiful it is in real life. I routinely look at the sun through a hydrogen alpha scope, so the chromosphere is familiar to me, but what I was unprepared for was that due to some moderately large prominences being present yesterday the chromosphere was also visible (ie the prominences) at totality! And of course, they were bright red, much brighter than I realized they would be. (They don't show well in the photo, though.)
