I got to my favorite footbridge in time for the moonrise, but was not prepared for the amazing colors, or for the strange form of the eclipsed moon. It was a remarkable event to witness. And what made it more interesting was the sudden appearance of a large helium balloon in the distance, adding another spheroid to the frame! The balloon is actually a tourist attraction located near Checkpoint Charlie almost 7 km away. It was painted to look like the earth and has "the world" written on the banner in German, namely "die Welt". I am sure the passengers got a wonderful view of the partial lunar eclipse from 500 ft up. The first two images derive from a video, a single cropped frame and then a GIF covering a minute in time as the balloon moved into view. The first image was edited to remove some tree branches and also the word "die" centered on the banner. I am not superstitious, but did not want anyone to get the wrong impression!! The GIF was left unchanged, so you can see what I am talking about. These first two images and the third photograph were taken with my Nikon Coolpix P600 mounted on a tripod. The last image was made with the handheld combination of 8 MP smartphone and 10x25 binoculars. It was taken a bit later as the colors were transitioning from reds to yellows.
