Details:
In evening twilight on Aug 4/5 a faint display of NLC crept over the northern horizon just north of Edmonton. As seems to happen so often around here, a brilliant auroral display soon showed up and stole the show! For a few brief moments the two phenomena overlapped; the red underside of the auroral curtain was stunning and in the photos takes on something of a watermelon color! Sony A65, 50mm lens, ISO 800, F/1.8, 1/3s exposures.
