Details:
A recent goal of mine has been to capture the Teapot of Sagittarius, which barely rises above the southern horizon in summer. Early Tuesday morning I succeeded in this effort :) but only after a change in location. The moon was not even on my mind as I was wrapping up my work.
Imagine my surprise then, when a quick glance to the east revealed the moon rising in the most incredible shades of red! I left my low-light camera on the tripod and grabbed my zoom camera and took a series of shots from the railing of the footbridge I was on. Once the most intense colors faded, I used the tripod to take additional photos of earthshine and surface detail.
The first three photos are ISO-400 with exposures of 1/4, 1/2 and 2sec respectively. The last photo is ISO-100 and 1/8 sec. The + in the last photo gives the approximate location of the Luna 17 spacecraft and nearby Lunokhod 1 rover.
The images have not been altered for color or light in any way. The first and last photos were cropped from the originals.
