Details:
It is rainy season recently in Guangdong, southern area of China. On July 4th we got a clear night sky with the moonlight shining above. But there was lightning near the horizon. The Guangdong Meteor Observation Network was working and monitoring the sky. One of our automatic detecting stations recorded a fantastic lightning that looks like gigantic jet, captured at 21:59:44 (UT + 8). It was amazing that we sometimes detected Sprites but it was the first time we got a gigantic jet in video with details. (Fig 1 & 2)
According to the video and the live lightning location map (Fig 3), this gigantic jet appeared at about 110KM to 120KM south to The Guangdong Meteor Observation Network Automatic Detecting Station in Beijiao, Foshan (113.1564E, 22.9295N). It might be 15KM from the bottom to 87KM on the top in height and it lasted 0.32 seconds. But it’s a pity that we just got one station data so we cannot do further analysis to find more information.
