Details:
Yesterday evening (25 June) the air became very clear ahead of some winter rain which allowed the day old new Moon to become clearly visible half an hour after sunset and then shine brightly with strong Earthshine in the evening sky. An hour later when darkness had fallen I manged to capture 48 photographs showing the Moon with bright Earthshine (and a nearby star) setting behind a tree-lined hill which overlooks Murambi. By using 1 second exposures at ISO 1600 and an aperture of F6.4 it was possible to capture a remarkable time-lapse sequence in which there was sufficient Earthshine from the Moon to make it look like a ghost Full Moon setting especially after the crescent portion had disappeared. The accompanying surreal mosaic (and an animated gif too large to upload here) were produced from the time-lapse photographs. The remaining three pictures show the Moon during late twilight when the Earthshine appeared brightest. The camera was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 with night scene and then manual exposure settings and up to x60 zoom magnification.
