Details:
Checked my e-mail about 8:30 PM last night and the Kp index was at 6 and the Interplanetary Magnetic Field was tilted south with indications the aurorae was visible at middle latitudes.  I started driving around for a suitable foreground before dark.  This one wasn't bad - the Stone Windmill about 15 miles north of O'Neill at the intersection of 887 road and Highway 281.  Sure enough the aurorae was in progress as the twilight deepened.  I used a Canon 6D with 16-35mm f4 IS L on a tripod at ISO 3200 for 30 seconds.  There was a west wind at about 20 mi/hr. which blurred the windmill but did not shake the tripod.  The show was nice until the clouds moved in from the north after midnight.  There were a couple nice dynamic veils that moved like a dying florescent light tubes!  I had to dodge the lights of cars on the highway, but it was a fun evening!
