Details:
In the wee small hours of the 23rd of April 2017 I took advantage of the clear skies and lack of street lights to take some wide field time lapse images of the Milky Way traversing the sky in the hope of catching one or two Lyrid meteors. I used a Sony A77 camera with a 16mm F2.8 lens with ISO 1000 to 2000 and 30 second exposures driven with the camera driven by an Astrotrac. There were a few bright ones visible and I did manage to get some in the image frames, but there was also a lot of satellites too as well as a nuisance plane to contend with. I also used my scope to view Jupiter and some of its moons and Saturn too – both majestic sights. A short video of the time lapse shots and observing session was also compiled and I have provided the link to the YouTube video above.
