On Tuesday afternoon, January 31, 2017, many Pensacola State College students stopped by to spot the crescent moon and Venus in broad daylight. We used a Skywatcher Virtuoso to track and photograph the 25% crescent moon and 40% crescent venus with iOptron adapters and smartphones. Here are some shots from the over 100 who stopped by for this rare opportunity. 1. Here several students are looking at the Virtuoso setup. 2. The crescent moon was faint, but Vasanth Ramachandran managed to capture it with polarizing filter. 3. Dr. Elizabeth Yelverton's photo shows student Rodney Fettinger about to photograph Venus with his iPhone. 4. Our smartphone shots showed Venus much brighter than the moon, thanks to its 60% albedo compared to the rocky, dark moon.
