Details:
The high speed solar wind stream from the recent coronal hole arrived as announced this 25 September. I managed to capture some beautiful Aurora from Uummannaq, in the high Greenlandic Arctic. Uummannaq is a small island and community located at 70°N. Geomagnetically speaking, I believe that this is equivalent to Helsinki or Stockholm in Europe, except that here, we need to look South to spot the Aurora! So tonight's display, coupled with a perfectly clear sky, was a really nice event. The display started when the north-western sky was still glowing red and orange from sunset! This took me a bit by surprise and as a result, the first photo was taken not further than the front door of my accommodation. It is my favorite one though, showing the colorful houses of Uummannaq. I moved towards the harbour were I took the other photos. This is not the most spectacular Aurora that I have ever seen, however, seeing it in such a unique place, with the resident icebergs of the harbour in the distance, make them one of the most special display for me. Now hopefully the next stream that is planned on 28/29 September is not delayed, and I'll still be in Greenland to witness it!
