"Underwear Aurora"
After 12 consecutive nearly sleepless nights in Greenland, after hiking probably more than 100 km since I arrived, yesterday was the night when I just had to go to bed, no matter how clear the sky was and how strong the Aurora forecast was.
Luckily I had the good idea to look through the window while already in bed and just before switching off the light. And boom! There was the Aurora, far in the northern sky, which had never happened since I arrived here! (magnetically speaking we are so far north here that the Aurora usually appears in the south). As I did not want to miss anything, and did not want to wake up my room mate, I just rushed out of bed, grabbed my camera and tripod and ran to the hotel's deck that faces the northern direction.
I'm not sure what was the best show to the 15+ tourists who were on the deck trying to handhold shoot the Aurora: the Aurora itself, or the crazy French guy barefoot and in his underwear? :-))
Anyway, a night to remember, and a few great shots on the memory card!
Far in the distance, the icebergs that are released continuously from the Ilulissat Icefjord.
