Details:
CONVERGENCE (photo #1) ~ Aurora bands and their reflections converge around a moonlit beaver dam in the Alaska Range on September 19, 2016 at 4:30 am AKDT (12:30 UTC). Shortly thereafter the dam builder, Bucky the beaver, swam up to me in the dark and gave the water a loud SLAP with his or her tail… OK, I jumped a little. I was excited! The clouds were parting as the much-anticipated coronal hole became geoeffective.
CRACK IN THE SKY (photo #2) ~ At 5:03 am AKDT on September 19, 2016 a beastly aurora climbed high into the sky above the Alaska Range as I tried to keep myself composed while self-composing.
