Details:
Shown in the photos are Venus, Jupiter and Mercury forming a triangle in Rio`s evening twilight sky. Ascending Venus can be seen 3.1° below descending Jupiter as they quickly approach each other, heading for a very close encounter on Aug. 27. Some 4.5° to the left of Jupiter is Mercury. Currently, Venus is 7.6x brighter than Jupiter, which in turn is 9.1x brighter than Mercury. Thus Venus is now 69x brighter than Mercury. Some clouds, exhibiting smooth traces typical of lenticular formations and still highlighted by the residual glow of sunset, add to the nice display. Details: Canon PowerShot SX60 HS camera on tripod; Manual mode; 5 x (F5.0, ISO800, 1/3s-1s) at 21:11-21:24 UT (30-43 min. after sunset).
