Details:
Many who observed the Perseid Meteor Shower that peaked on the morning of 12 Aug 2016 reported that the meteors appeared to come in clusters followed by long quite periods.
To illustrate this, the left image contains Perseids when they appeared (many very faint) and the right image contains 72 minutes of continuous exposures of 13 secs in duration (2 sec gaps between each frame).
Caster, the brightest star (labelled) shows a distinct pattern of clusters and gaps, as was reported. Of course this image only shows a small area of the celestrial sphere but assuming equal distribution of meteors from the radiant point, this distribution probably applied everywhere in the sky.
