On Aug 13, 2016, to watch the Perseids meteor shower I went to the place so-called "Shi Keng Kong", where is the highest mountain peak in the Guangdong province in China. I was using a fisheye lens to shoot at the northern east direction to try to capture the Perseids meteor. There's a big cloud approaching from the east. We can see thunders in it. Suddenly we saw a flash, color in blue and purple, ejected from the top of the cloud in a very fast speed. It just looks like a tree with branches and grew up very fast. It lasted just within one second. So awesome! I was so lucky to capture such a Sprites Lightning, a Gigantic Jet! When inspecting the photo carefully I found there are Red Sprites and Blue Jets. What an amazing event!

Phebe...Ive seen and photographed two of these from Puerto Rico so I know how amazing they actually are to witness with your own eyes like you did. Welcome to the club of the very few people that have photographed and witnessed these remarkable displays of mother nature.

Great photo! I am curious as to whether the storm that produced the GJ is over land or water? Also, as per the request by another post below, can you share the time of the event? This is another photo for this event. Captured from another location. According to the time frame and the figure of the jet we believe they belong to the same event.
