Shortly after midnight, October 9, 2012 an intense aurora appeared over Bellingham, WA (USA). The majority and brightest display were in the northeastern sky. However, at the same time, what I believe was a Proton Arc appeared in the north/northwestern sky and persisted for more than 20 minutes before it slowly faded from view. This photo was taken at the Sudden Valley Marina and just shows the arc display. The entire display is show in a composite pano. Canon 20D, 17mm f/5.6, ISO 1600, 30 seconds
