Details:
The photos, taken between 17:56 and 18:01 (UTC-3h), show Venus and Mercury seen from Rio de Janeiro about 30 minutes after sunset. The Sun was 7° below the west-northwestern horizon and the horizontal coordinates of the planets (altitude, azimuth) were (5°, 292°) and (9°, 293°), respectively. Both planets have now become easy naked-eye targets at the beginning of nautical twilight. Venus is currently 23 times brighter than Mercury, however it is still immersed in the Sun`s glare (13° from it), while Mercury is a bit further out (17°). A Canon PowerShot SX60 HS camera was used for all shots with its vivid color mode on. In addition, five photos were stacked (with Registax 6) to yield each of the four images shown.
