Details:
Fast Mercury is catching up with Venus as both are gradually moving away from the Sun to adorn the evening twilight. On July 16 they will form a close pair only 0.5° apart. These photos were taken with a Canon Powershot SX60 HS camera between 20:43 and 20:46 UT. The first two show them 1.6° apart. Venus, currently 12 times brighter and further from the Sun (10.5° compared to 9.0°), is seen in the third photo 3 minutes after Mercury (last photo) had hidden behind a distant hill 3° high.
