Details:
The current waxing Moon has been setting progressively later during the dark hours of morning with the setting point moving rapidly to the south-west to meet a receding and progressively lower horizon. This has meant a much longer path through haze for the moonlight resulting in it becoming orange-red. This morning at 04.13 LT a mandarin orange-like moon was captured descending behind some distant low hills in a time-lapse sequence of photographs taken at intervals of a few seconds with a tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera in manual exposure mode and x60 magnification. Unfortunately the light level was so low that it was not possible to obtain clear images of the whole event. The still image was taken 10 minutes before moonset and the subsequent mosaic is a compilation of the 20 usable images obtained during the one minute interval it took to partially disappear. The still and time-lapse images had to be post-processed to enhance brightness, contrast and sharpness to compensate for atmospheric degradation and on reduction produced eye-catching results.
