Details:
Yesterday evening (06 June) the new waxing thin crescent Moon was quite high in a bright sunset sky when it first became visible at 17.30 LT (first picture). The two mosaics show what it looked like as it descended though a background of various twilight colors and Earthshine began to appear. It was not until after dark (at 18.27 LT) that it set through some trees on top of the Christmas Pass hills. By this time the crescent had dimmed and turned deep orange-red due to atmospheric haze but I nevertheless managed to capture 10 very low light images of it disappearing from view. These were processed to produce the accompanying animated gif. The photographs were taken using a tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera in sunset and then night sky modes with zoom magnifications of up to x60 and exposures of up to 4 seconds.
