Details:
After rotating the optical tube of the Tak Mewlon 180mm F12 (in tube rings), I managed to locate the somewhat shy Phobos, just at the edge of one of the diffraction spikes caused by the Mewlon’s 3 vane spider.
I took a series of exposures of 0.5 sec, 1 sec, 2 sec and 3 secs (also 4, 5 & 10 secs) to be sure that Phobos appeared reliably on each frame, reducing the possibility that it was a ghost image. The Sky X Pro gives the image scale as 0.32 arcsec/pixel.
The seeing wasn’t quite as good as my previous success with the Celestron c 9.25, but in the Southern Hemisphere we are enjoying Mars at altitudes of up to 80 degrees, making the recording of these diminutive moons somewhat easier.
The colour image of Mars was taken through the same system, but with a ZWO ASI224MC CMOS camera (0.18 arcsec/pixel) and has been resampled and overlaid over the grossly exposed blob of Mars as recorded by the Atik 414 EX.
Cheers
Dennis
