Details:
At latitude 53N at this time of year, the night sky is in permanent twilight, and these constellations only just scrape over the southern horizon. So I've never attempted such a shot before - and frankly did not think it would succeed as well as this. But generous exposure, accurate tracking, and a site free from light pollution (Mace Head) help a lot. Details: Mosaic of two frames, each 4 minutes exposure Canon 5D II at ISO 400 Mamiya [645 format] 55/2.8 N lens at f/4 "4-point star effect" diffraction filter AstroTrac
