Details:
This evening (24 May) there were unexpected displays of colored anti-crepuscular and crepuscular rays after sunset. First two broad orange anti-crepuscular rays appeared in an inverted v-shaped formation over Cecil Kop Nature Reserve to the East and then ten minutes later a beautiful display of radiating magenta crepuscular rays appeared in the western sky above the point where the sun had gone down behind the Christmas Pass Hills. Mutare has frequently been experiencing colorful twilight arches about half an hour after sunset but only a few are accompanied by crepuscular rays. Factors that contribute appear to the presence of aerosols in the upper stratosphere and clearing skies to the west after periods of rain. The photographs were taken using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera in sunset scenery mode.
