The weather has been terrible here in the small north of Chile for the past week and a half already. Fortunately tonight it got cleared a little bit and we witnessed a beautiful halo around the Moon. I took a wide-field panorama to show you both the halo and enormous clouds structure. Im really wondering what is terrible weather over there in Atacama. It should not have been terrible amounts of rainfall, since Ive ever learned that Atacama is one of the dryest places on earth. Meanwhile, does a ring around the moon also predict rain in Atacama?

Atacama desert is one of the driest places indeed. However this year we are under influence of quite strong El Nino phenomenon. Therefore we are getting much more clouds than usual. Halo around the Moon doesnt really predict rain over the desert.
