Details:
Due to unstable meteorological conditions, the transit of Mercury on May 9th was difficult to photograph from my observing site in the south of Belgium. During a 2-minute clearing in the cloud deck, I managed to shoot 6 webcam videos with my 80mm apochromatic refractor and Baader Astro solar filter, to compose the attached mosaic of the solar disk. On one of the videos an F16 fighter plane from the Belgian base at Florennes crossed the Sun. I used it in this composite image. It seemed to me the Air Force was protecting the small planet during its fiery transit over the solar disk. Peter Van den Eijnde Antwerp, Belgium
