On today's front page it is stated that "not everything in the sky is as it seems". Here is a good example. Yesterday evening, an unusual combination of circumstances gave rise to a sunset which created a virtual fire among some indigenous Musasa trees on the skyline of the Christmas Pass Hills near Mutare. This included good visibility, a long uninterrupted path for the setting sunlight from a distant horizon, and a low local cloud base which almost exactly coincided with the skyline. The result, a virtual blaze caused by bright light from the setting sun being reflected from wisps of cloud which had separated from the main base just above and behind the hill. The photographs were taken using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera in intelligent-auto mode and up to x60 zoom magnification.
