Details:
It must be spring! It takes very little in the way of solar wind to make a nice aurora next the equinox. Plus it was a great night to watch the aurora with a boreal owl calling for a mate the whole time I was taking photos. The nearly full moon tends to wipe out the aurora, but it also provides a lot of light for things on the ground...and shadows of me when I'm not paying attention.
