Details:
The photos, taken with a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 camera at 21:41-48 UT, show the Southern Cross rising over the Tijuca Mountain Chain (a forest that crosses the city) at dusk, just seven hours before the start of Autumn. Note that Rio`s latitude is 22.9° South. Further details of that beautiful constellation can be seen in the second photo, taken at higher magnification, including the enchanting multicolored Jewel Box Cluster (close to Beta Crucis).
