About 11 AM Thursday, my morning AST 1002 students had a chance to capture a bright flare between the two sunspots in AR 2494. First shot is by Lindsey Blanton, next by Georgana Christley, and last two by Alison Berg. All taken with smartphones, iOptron Smartphone adapter with 12mm Plossl, and PSC's Coronado 60.

My mistake. Last two photos are by Ashley, not Alison, Berg. My apologies! Going to get more at the Rally Day for student clubs tomorrow, we hope. More students learn to use their smartphones for such astrophotos, more likely they are to turn them upward to learn the heavens. This is powerful technology we are just beginning to tap into in the astronomical community.
