Details:
Many parts of Zimbabwe and in particular Mutare have received very little rain this summer due to the effects of the strong El Nino. Normally January is one of the wettest months of the year and the chances of being able to see a consecutive full moonrise and moonset would be minimal. However as the Mutare skies have been almost cloud free early mornings and evenings due to the drought I hoped that this month's full moonrise and moonset might both be visible. I was in luck as the attached images show. On the evening of the 23rd the full Moon appeared over a hill in the Cecil Kop Nature Reserve (first mosaic) and then rose through a thin veil of high cloud tinted magenta by the last light from the setting sun (second image). However early next morning the Moon was only occasionally visible due to a fast moving layer of low cloud which had formed by condensation during the night (third image) but, just as it was about to set behind some hills near Christmas Pass, the clouds suddenly parted allowing the photographs in the second mosaic to be taken. The camera used was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset auto mode and up to x60 zoom magnification.
