Details:
Escambia Amateur Astronomers member Andy Walker used his Samsung Note 3 Smartphone and iOptron Smartphone adapter to photograph three different views of the Sun's AR 2480, on the western limb today. The visible sun is with a Orion Eon 72 with 2.5" Draco Baader Solar filter. The hydrogen alpha image is with a Coronado 60. The CaK image is with a 70mm homebuilt, using B1200 Lunt CaK filter. This shows that CaK imaging with Smartphones is difficult, but promising.

Your HA and CAK images appear to be defocused. You should remove the microlens of your smartphone camera to utilize prime focal imaging. You can get a used smartphone off of ebay with a very minimal investment. You should also remove the IR/UV cut filter from said smartphone camera sensor.

I have done this with great success. Also set the camera to video mode, and use the program registax to stack the images for processing in a smaller format. This brings out great detail that will astonish you.

Galaxy S6 can have total control over the exposure settings ont he camera, and this is really what you need. Automatic exposure will not produce the results you seek, unless you want to capture prominence animations.

Thanks for the suggestions, Amplelight. My intention is not to get my own photos, but learn how to let my students take photos of the Sun and moon easily with smartphones, so taking out a lens on someone elses phone is not going to fly. But as they get more advanced, some of them might like to try movies, and Registax processing. I know it does bring out details nicely.
