Details:
Clouds finally parted long enough to glass Comet Catalina C/2013 US10 this morning for the first time after waiting through a month of fog and clouds. It is small!
Reflected in the North Fork River, Arcturus is straight above the peak of "Big Old Man" mountain, "Kwilqa Nul" to the Kootenai Indians. Today we know it as Mount Vaught.
Comet Catalina is the small green smudge at 11 o'clock above Arcturus, below the Y in my watermark. Once Arcturus was visible, I could locate and just barely make out Catalina by using averted vision. Binoculars brought the fuzzy coma into view. In the foreground, some crazy person drove past me at 2:23 a.m. and minus 4F. Nikon D750, 20 sec f1.4 ISO 3200.
