Details:
The Northern Lights were active shortly after nightfall on New Year's Eve (as seen from Alberta, Canada) when I shot the first image, which shows the curtains to the east with Orion rising. They then faded to a diffuse glow for a while before picking up again before midnight when I took the second image, which has Leo and Jupiter rising. It was a great way to ring in the New Year, with a fine aurora! Both images are part of time-lapse sequences for 600 to 900 frames shot at rapid cadence times.
