Details:
This was Comet Catalina (C/2013 US10) on New Year's Day, predawn, with it less than a degree away from Arcturus in a clear but moonlit sky, with the waning quarter Moon not far away. A faint ion tail is visible, barely, extending to the right, while the stubby dust tail extends downward. This is a stack of 7 x 2-minute exposures with a 200mm lens and 1.4x extender at f/4.5, and Canon 6D camera at ISO 800. The iris blades in the lens add the diffraction spikes on Arcturus.
