Details:
Comet C/2013 US10 (Catalina) was imaged on the morning of December 19, 2015. It was very windy this morning, making use of the heavy 200mm lens and accurate polar alignment challenging. The photo was made of twenty-two 20 second exposures (Canon 70D, Canon 200 mm f/2.8 lens @ f/3.2, ISO 640). Stacking was done with Nebulosity with tracking on an iOptron Sky Tracker.

Marion - I like your image a lot. Was it taken in Lancaster and if so, where? I know Lancaster a little and would like to know how you dealt with any light pollution.

Thanks!

Thank You Jim! I live in Manheim Township just to the NE of the city. I have fairly heavy light pollution at my house; however, my eastern horizon isnt too bad. Had this comet been in the western sky, i would have to go to a dark site. Keeping the ISO down to 400-800 and exposures short (20 seconds max) the light pollution isnt too bad. Stacking is really helpful in minimizing noise and enables you to work at your maximum potential even in a heavily light polluted environment.

That all makes sense, Marion. I live in Edison NJ but come out to your area with my family 2x-3x a year. My light pollution is very bad; I will use your ISO and exposure recommendations the next time we have a clear morning although that may not be until 2016 :-)
