Details:
This morning (and we will have a new opportunity window after the sunset of December 12th) I made a very special observation, hunting for a sliver of the waning crescent Moon.
Obviously the only clouds were towards the eastern horizon, but after a while, the Moon appeared in a gap between them, and after taking some pictures, I managed to see it even with the unaided eye (and my glasses grin emoticon ). As always, to observe such a waning crescent is always a great thing!
It's difficult to say what one would have seen with a telescope, since the seeing at +3 degrees of elevation above the horizon the seeing is way way bad, but imagining it with a Moon map, on the central portion we would have found the western shores of Mare Orientale, with the Lacus Autumni and Veris, and the Montes Cordillera. At the extreme southernmost point maybe some peaks of Drigalsky and Ashbrook, while at the northernmost point some mountain range of the big Gerard.
