Details:
A pre-dawn session to see and shoot Comet Catalina was thwarted by thin cloud on December 5. However, that same high cloud added a photogenic halo around the waning crescent Moon, which was sitting between Mars and Jupiter. Along with Venus, and the stars Spica and Regulus, the six objects very nicely drew the ecliptic line across the morning sky. I shot this scene from the Arizona-New Mexico border near the Arizona Sky Village at Portal, Arizona. It is a blend of 4 exposures, from long to short, to pick up the faint halo while not blowing out the bright Moon and planets too much. Very special techniques are needed to pick up the labels and lines in the sky! :)
