Ok..so shot this in my front yard this past Saturday. I've seen sundogs and rainbows and rainbow halos around the sun. Then I looked up and saw this "reverse" rainbow. The sun was low in the southern sky. The rainbow was below the zenith in the sky so it was pointing up like a smiley face. Was there for about 10 minutes. It was a generally sunny day but some haze moved in. I noticed the normal sun "halo" and then this appeared. First one I've ever seen in 30 years of looking upwards.

This reverse rainbow is also a halo form, the so-called circumzenithal arc. No rain at all is involved here, since this bow has its origin in high cloud ice crystals just as the sundogs and circular halos have. It is observed several times a month by alert sky watchers.
