Yes, it really is a halo phenomenon, and even a magnificant one! A faint common halo is present above the sun. Most striking is the briljant 22 degs parhelion or mock sun. From the parhelion we see stretching three arcs: the bright white to the left (parhelic circle), a faint arc to 1 oclock and a faint one to 5 oclock, both ones being so called Lowitz arcs. Those arcs are quite rarely seen indeed.
