These were reportedly seen as far away as IN, tke with my gopro with a 30s shutter exposure setting.

If the reflecting cloud veil is in high atmospheric levels (as halo-generating clouds commonly are), they may reflect light sources even from behind the horizon. The reflections (light pillars) will appear then at low elevations in the sky, just as can be seen in the images.
