Details:
I was doing my normal pre evening check on SpaceWeather.com and spotted the illusive KP6 magnitude aurora. With clear skies, an unusual scenario for Scotland I headed quickly out to the closest location with dark skies I could find. This happened to be a reservoir 5 miles North of Hawick.
Because the Moon was still down the sky looked absolutely glorious. The Milkyway arched right overhead with Cassopeia looking down on us and Pleides sparkling. I situated myself at the South side of the river to look North, and there, nestled right underneath Polaris a glorious display of the Northern lights was taking place.
I took maybe a hundred photos over the course of two hours and insisted my wife who came with me, jumped in the lake to finish off a wonderful picture. I used my iPhone to illuminate the surrounding green grass for a lovely effect.
Oh man, it's the best Aurora I've ever seen.
