I was doing my normal pre evening check on SpaceWeather.com and spotted the illusive KP6 magnitude aurora. With clear skies, an unusual scenario for Scotland I headed quickly out to the closest location with dark skies I could find. This happened to be a reservoir 5 miles North of Hawick. Because the Moon was still down the sky looked absolutely glorious. The Milkyway arched right overhead with Cassopeia looking down on us and Pleides sparkling. I situated myself at the South side of the river to look North, and there, nestled right underneath Polaris a glorious display of the Northern lights was taking place. I took maybe a hundred photos over the course of two hours and insisted my wife who came with me, jumped in the lake to finish off a wonderful picture. I used my iPhone to illuminate the surrounding green grass for a lovely effect. Oh man, it's the best Aurora I've ever seen.

Beautiful! Great night! Nice to hear your story also as it is really cool to know that there are people across the world who love the same natural displays and go out of our way to see them at their best.
And also cool to know that you in Scotland saw the same Auroras as I did from Canadas West Coast!
Cheers!
