Details:
What would have been nothing more than a piddly green glow and perhaps faint diffuse pillars at home in Wisconsin was a stunning show at 50 degrees north. Abnormally warm temps kept the night comfortable, and a slight breeze kept the mosquitoes away - it was perfect!
Seeing auroras at this latitude was entirely different from southern Wisconsin where we typically get long green and red pillars that shoot up during storms and sub-storms. These were flowing green curtains with almost mesmerizing movement as they constantly ebbed and flowed through the night sky. Almost no light pollution eliminated the ugly orange glow I often get near the horizon when shooting them much further south.
