Details:
Photographs taken on 29 August and 05 March this year enable the apparent size of the setting Sun to be compared with both Super and Micro Moons rising up to three hours later. The resulting composite shows that the diameter of the sun lies midway between those of the Super and Micro Moons and explains why when a Super Moon passes directly in front of the Sun a total solar eclipse can be observed and when a Micro Moon passes directly in front of it an annular solar eclipse occurs instead. The images used to compile the illustration were captured between 17.28 and 20.35 LT from the same location using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera in auto exposure mode and x60 zoom magnification.
