I noticed it out of my window around 9:25 pm. I switched off the lights to see it more clearly facing south. It was clearly not artificial from the ground as it was diffuse through the clouds and there were shades of red and purple surrounding the main area of green. It had rained today so there were still clouds around. I couldn't believe it as it's very unusual to see it in Bristol randomly at a time of low solar activity. It remained for a couple of hours. I called my friend who came over to see it. Unfortunately, both of us didn't have a proper camera so we used our smart to take a few photos. I have taken 21 and have only uploaded 4 allowed. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and used Auto settings. In a couple of photos I increased the exposure to 2 seconds. It varied in intensity and at one point faded away but then brightened again. I can share more pics if needed. I think it was a localised phenomenon but it was hopefully seen by some other people in Bristol.

May be, may be not ! The green light observed would come from the misty light underneath near the ground. A low cloud would be illuminated from below. Light pollution.
