Details:
No, this is not a gigantic solar prominence gushing from the sun but an extraordinary pattern of sunlight reflected from bush fire smoke and some wispy cloud close to the horizon near Christmas Pass in the hills to the west of Mutare, Zimbabwe. These amazing images were captured while trying to observe the large sunspot AR2396, but the sun was too bright to reveal it despite the abundant haze. Instead a surreal sequence of three pictures was obtained which show what appears to be a tadpole tail emerging from the sun before it started to disappear below the horizon. All are -2 stop exposures taken with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera in Sunset mode with x60 zoom magnification.
